Aida-Carmen Soanea has established herself as an eclectic and charismatic violist. Born in Romania into a family of singers who moved to Germany in the 1980’s, she enjoyed studying with Kim Kashkashian in Berlin and Gérard Caussé in Paris. She also took master-classes with Thomas Riebl, Wolfram Christ, Barbara Westphal and many other distinguished musicians.
Meeting Yuri Bashmet at the summer academy of Siena (Italy) he invited her to take part in his competition in Moscow (2000) where she was awarded the 2nd prize. In November 2005 Aida-Carmen Soanea won the 1st prize of the Valentino Bucchi international competition (Rome). As well as which she was a finalist in the ARD competition in Munich (2000) and winner of many other prizes.
Aida-Carmen Soanea combines all kinds of music making. She is a guest of many festivals throughout Europe both as a soloist and a chamber musician, including the Berliner Festwochen, Internationale Osterfestspiele Luzern, Rheingau Musikfestival, Elverum Festspillene and Cité de la Musique in Paris. She has collaborated with Natalia Gutman, Kolja Blacher, Renaud Capuçon, Tabea Zimmermann, Adrian Brendel, Jean-Guihem Queyras, Alexander Melnikov and Mihaela Ursuleasa...
Another important part of her musical life is dedicated to the Delian Quartet which recorded in 2007 a Schumann CD with the pianist Igor Kamenz.
Aida-Carmen Soanea was solo violist of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra performing with Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Bernhard Haitink and Seiji Ozawa. Since 2004 she has been the principal guest violist of the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Ivan Fischer. As well, she is invited as a solo violist to join many orchestras in Europe and is a member of the prestigious Orchestra of the Festival of Luzern created by Claudio Abbado.
